At the May 27 City Council meeting, Mayor Kurt Wilson and the Roswell City Council honored the City’s Environmental/Public Works (EPW) Department for earning multiple statewide accolades at the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) Spring Conference & Industrial Symposium. These awards highlight Roswell’s commitment to operational excellence, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.

“These recognitions are more than just awards; they are proof that our city is setting the standard across Georgia,” said Mayor Kurt Wilson. “We are investing in the talent, technology, and training needed to deliver exceptional service and protect our most vital resources. Congratulations to the entire EPW team for making Roswell proud.”

Award Highlights

Education Program of Excellence Gold Award, presented to Environmental Educator Liberti Gates. This is the first time Roswell has received this prestigious award, marking a significant milestone for the City’s public education efforts in environmental awareness. Gates’ leadership in creating dynamic, impactful learning opportunities has elevated Roswell’s role in promoting sustainability across the community.

The City’s Water Utility team continued its tradition of excellence, earning the Water Treatment Plant of the Year Award for the fourth consecutive year. Roswell also received the Water Treatment Plant Gold Award, maintaining an impressive record of zero permit violations, demonstrating the department’s dedication to safety, compliance, and innovation.

Roswell also made a strong showing in statewide competitions. In the Meter Challenge, Roswell staff swept the podium with Arthur Brechbill taking 1st place, AJ Shengeb in 2nd, and Nathan Gravley in 3rd. Meanwhile, Corey Bagby and Kyle Bookshire placed 3rd in the Hydrant Hysteria event, showcasing the team’s skills and preparedness.
