The City of Roswell hosted a ribbon-cutting on Wednesday, Nov. 6, to celebrate the completion the Ace Sand – Phase I project. The new park is located just to the west of Don White Memorial Park on Riverside Road and features a multi-use trail, native plantings, a fitness loop, an Adventure Path, and many stormwater management and riverbank stabilization projects.

“The completion of the Ace Sand – Phase I project marks a new era in redefining Roswell’s riverscape. This is the first project of the River Parks Master Plan, a comprehensive blueprint to transform the City’s riverfront property into a unified, first-class river park system,” said Mayor Kurt M. Wilson. “This Mayor and Council are proud to have activated the plan, which had sat on the shelf for several years until we prioritized its approval, funded it, and set the plan in motion with the creation of this exceptional park. We welcome everyone to come enjoy all it has to offer!”

    The project features:

    • New multi-use trails that enhance access and connectivity all throughout the park.
    • The fitness loop trail provides serene, shaded space for visitors to enjoy the river views, as well as access to several fitness pods along the paved pathway.
    • Smaller trails connect through the park’s central grove of trees to the enchanting Adventure Path, which offers a unique woodland experience for visitors of all ages.
    • Thousands of new native plantings beautify the park, as well as playing an important role in stormwater management and riverbank stabilization.
    • Creative and innovative landscape features—like the cascading rock gardens near the sand volleyball courts—are actually bioswales, which capture water and allow it to drain into the ground, thereby minimizing flooding and erosion.

The transformation of Roswell’s riverscape will continue with the Ace Sand – Phase II project. Currently in design phase, the project will feature a unique Children’s Stormwater Garden, which simultaneously helps to control runoff while providing a hands-on learn-and-play experience for children of multiple age groups and abilities.

Other upcoming projects that will transform Roswell’s popular river corridor include enhancements to Don White Memorial Park and Riverside Park, as well as safety and operational improvements to Riverside Road. For more on these projects, click here.

The total cost for the Ace Sand – Phase I project is approximately $2.2 million, which was funded by the City of Roswell and federal ARPA funds.
